2027 Virtual Conference for Deaf Education Professionals

Hello Friends –

We are so excited to bring you a wonderful 2027 virtual conference experience: we are combining elements from our past VC events and adding a few twists. There are so many professionals from our community with varying perspectives we can learn from, communication systems and strategies we can adopt, and tools we can incorporate into our teaching—all with the ultimate mission of improving outcomes for our students. It all starts with YOU. To be an effective teacher, you must be a lifelong learner. To stop learning is to stop growing.

We have added an extra session to everyone’s ticket for this conference as a bonus. Our keynote speaker, Christy Vogel, who grew up with a hearing difference and a family that could not afford hearing aids, will be providing a LIVE session, “Reigniting Your Purpose by Shifting Your Perspective,” at the midpoint of the conference, Wednesday, February 10, 2027. The session will be recorded for attendees, but I encourage you to attend live—you just can’t beat the energy. Many of the speakers have agreed to do LIVE Q&A sessions (also a bonus) to be scheduled between the viewing period of January 15, 2027, and March 31, 2027.

Conference tickets: choose from 4, 7, or 11 sessions. All tickets include the bonus keynote and live Q&A sessions with presenters: so that’s 4 Sessions + Bonus keynote + Live Q&A; OR 7 Sessions + Bonus keynote + Live Q&A; OR 11 Sessions + Bonus keynote + Live Q&A.

2027 Virtual Conference LIVE Keynote

Keynote Speaker – Christy Vogel, Founder, Sounding Joy Hearing Aid Giving

At the age of 11, Christy Vogel was told two things: she was hard of hearing (probably since birth), and she had taught herself to read lips without realizing it.

As a child, because she had to put sound and facial expressions together with what she saw while lipreading to figure out what people were saying, she would sometimes respond slowly. People thought she was slow or “stupid.” As she grew into her teens (still without hearing aids because her parents couldn’t afford them), she decided they must be right. See Christy’s TEDx Talk.

It wasn’t until Christy was already succeeding in the business world in her 20s, despite her hearing loss, that she could afford her first pair of hearing aids. It changed her world. Finally able to participate and contribute to her full potential, Christy’s career took off.

Christy came to the realization in 2021 that she was supposed to be born hard of hearing and unable to afford hearing aids, so she could be passionate enough to help others get hearing aids. In March of 2021, she started a nonprofit, Sounding Joy, that provides hearing aids to children whose families can’t afford them.
