About the
Virtual Conference

Our Theme for 2027:  “Many Voices, One Mission.”

Many Voices, One Mission text set against picture of cascading hands in huddle

Supporting Success for Children with Hearing Loss invites you to submit a session proposal for our January 2027 Virtual Conference, “Many Voices, One Mission.” This 10-session event brings together professionals, researchers, and educators from across the field of deaf and hard of hearing education for a shared experience of learning, connection, and purpose. Sessions are pre-recorded by presenters and made available to attendees on demand during the viewing window.

Our theme, “Many Voices, One Mission,” reflects our belief that the children and families we serve are best supported when the full range of professional expertise and lived experience is at the table — audiologists, speech-language pathologists, Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, researchers, and educators representing diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

This year, we are especially seeking proposals that reflect the richness of our field across disciplines, communication philosophies, and cultural identities.

Cross-Disciplinary Perspectives

  • Collaboration between audiologists, SLPs, and TODHHs in supporting DHH learners
  • How each discipline sees the child differently — and what we gain by listening to each other
  • Team-based approaches to assessment, goal-setting, and service delivery

Language & Communication Diversity

  • ASL, spoken language, and bilingual/bimodal approaches in educational settings
  • Supporting students across the communication spectrum
  • Bridging philosophical divides to serve the whole child

Cultural & Racial Diversity in DHH Education

  • Serving DHH students and families from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds
  • Culturally responsive practices in assessment, IEP development, and family engagement
  • Addressing disparities in identification, access, and outcomes for diverse DHH learners

Practical Application & Evidence-Based Practice

  • Classroom strategies, tools, and resources that work across settings
  • Research-to-practice connections relevant to itinerant and resource room TODHHs
  • Case studies and lessons learned from the field

Who Should Submit

We welcome proposals from:

  • Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TODHHs) and itinerant specialists
  • Audiologists and educational audiologists
  • Speech-language pathologists working with DHH populations
  • University faculty and researchers in deaf education or related fields
  • School administrators and DHH program coordinators
  • Deaf and hard of hearing professionals with expertise in the field

Presenters from racially, linguistically, and culturally diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. First-time presenters are welcome.

Proposal Requirements

Your proposal submission should include the following:

  • Presenter name(s), credentials, title, and organization
  • Presenter bio (150 words or less per presenter)
  • Session title
  • Session description (250 words or less) — written for a professional audience
  • 3–5 learning objectives (what attendees will be able to do after attending)
  • How your session connects to the “Many Voices, One Mission” theme
  • Communication/language approach represented (ASL, spoken language, bilingual/bimodal, or other)
  • Target audience (TODHHs, audiologists, SLPs, university faculty, all)
  • Any technology or special requirements

Note: Submitting a proposal does not guarantee acceptance. All proposals will be reviewed by the SSCHL program committee. Accepted presenters will be notified by June 1, 2026, will be required to sign a presenter agreement, and will receive recording guidelines and a submission deadline upon acceptance.
