Listen Little Star – A Guide for Families of Infants with Hearing Loss

$39.00

Description

When I was coordinating the services to families of children with hearing loss in the Florida early intervention program, we supplied a copy of Listen Little Star to each family of an infant identified with hearing loss. This valuable resource is now provided in a new printed format and includes a DVD with the guide and a video of each lesson. I am thrilled to be able to make Listen Little Star available to families and early intervention providers again!  Karen Anderson, Director

Step-by-Step Guidance for Families

Although we are identifying children with hearing loss in the first couple of months of life, the real change to developmental outcomes is the result of high quality support and knowledge of specific techniques and strategies shared by the early intervention provider. In many locations throughout the U.S. early intervention to families is NOT being provided by a person with an extensive background in the development of young children with hearing loss. Although outcomes have improved somewhat, they continue to fall short of near-typical language development at school age in many areas because the EI providers lacked appropriate knowledge.
Listen Little Star is comprised of a printed guide with 12 lessons for families of infants newly identified with hearing loss. There are video lessons that go with the printed guide. The DVD contains each of the 12 lessons as a separate lesson and each of the 12 videos are also a separate file so that you can easily access exactly the materials you want to see.

Listen Little Star is excellent for families to obtain and use independently as a supplement to their early services. It is even more effective when used as a family-friendly guide to early intervention whether used by a provider with limited background in DHH or a veteran early intervention DHH teacher.

This colorful 160+ page printed guide is divided into 12 lessons and also includes an extensive Baby Response Checklist data gathering tool and other resource materials at the end. The video lessons and all of the PDFs from the printed guide materials are included on the DVD. The professionally recorded video lessons provide a description and video showing the lesson being done by a parent and child. It is an excellent way to teach the skills in the printed guide.
